I have unbolted the alternator off the block but I cannot seem to get it out. There is hardly any room ontop on below

you will have to remove the crossmember. then unbolt the exhaust pipe from the manifold and also at the converter. disconnect the exhaust hangers and separate the pipe from the converter. this will give you access to remove the alternator..
