Transmission problem

We purchased this little Mazda as a second car with great gas mileage for a song & dance. The little things have been no problem to take care of but... A short time after we got it about 6 months ago it would pop out of 5th gear, went away, and reappered recently. It doesn't just slip out, it rather violently pops out repeatedly. It has a new clutch & all the other gears are fine.
