It idles high sometimes to five or six and give it gas it acts like it has no power and I put it in second gear but it feels like it is stuck.The engine light stays on.

Idle at five or six? is that a low idle or a high idle like the motor screaming?

Okay.

Code number? If you do not have it, a parts store can read it for you for free. once we know the code, it will lead us in the direction of the failure.

The high idle could be from a vacuum leak. Check all the hose for either being cracked or broken. Look for any that may be disconnected as well. This is one of the causes for high idle.

Otherwise, it could be the throttle body or the idle air control valve.
