I wanted to clean the MAF sensor in the air intake. When I removed the two screws and removed what I thought would be the sensor it was a cap with movable piece and a mechanical piece in the air plenum. I removed the air intake hose I looked inside the throttle body, and the valve was completely open. Not sure if that’s normal to be open and is there a MAF sensor.

Hi,

You removed the idle air control valve (IAC). That is what is responsible for maintaining engine idle speed based on need. For example, when you turn the AC on, the engine load changes and requires the idle to increase to compensate.

Now, as far as the MAF sensor is concerned, this vehicle doesn't have one. In its place is a MAP sensor (manifold absolute pressure) sensor. I attached a pic below showing its location. Also, pic 2 shows the general locations of the IAC and the MAP.

Let me know if this helps. Also, if you are experiencing issues with the vehicle, let me know what they are and hopefully, I'll be able to help.

Take care,

Joe

Thanks Joe, I was hoping that was the case since I couldn’t find the MAF sensor for this car.
