Spun a bearing and threw a rod on cylinder #2. Wanting to do a lower end rebuild only due to the low mileage. I am unable to find a lower end rebuild kit. So I am seeking a lower end rebuild kit parts list to build my own kit. Also in this event does the timing chain cover have to be removed and if so would it make sense to replace the timing chain and assembly at the same time?

On a 3.8L inspect timing chain cover for damage in oil pump housing. Highly recommended to install Melling oil pump kit which gives better oil in engine. Try finding a crank kit, also replace the rod that spun and any others that have spun, they ovalize terribly and will do it again after install. Replace chain and gears as well.

if the rod spun how is the crank? normally they get damaged as well, that is why I said crank kit which is crank and bearings. How about the rear main seal or is it included with gasket set? Silicone rtv you may as well get a new serpentine belt and tensioner as well.is the timing cover okay or is it torn up look in oil pump area and put Vaseline or KY jelly in oil pump when you install it so it won't have to be primed. whatever rod has spun the head will need to come off so you will need intake and at least one head gasket as well.
