Have you checked oil level is okay? if so do a oil change and filter and use a quality oil flush. when done get the oil pressure tested, i would like to know what the pressure is, cold idle, warm idle and warm 1500 rpm's.

I changed the oil and filter. I will perform the oil flush and change the oil and filter again and check the pressure and get back to you. Thank you, Steve.

Okay, make sure you follow the instructions on the flush, this will
help remove carbon from the lash adjusters.

I have a problem. When I start the car it is starting to tap a bit. Do not think I should run it afraid I might hurt something. I am sure it has has low or no oil pressure. The car has been serviced and garaged and taken care of. I am the third owner. It has 110,000 miles, the oil and inside of the filter are very clean. I did change the balancer and that is when it happened. About ten miles of driving and the low oil pressure came on. Would the installation of the new balancer have caused this problem? Thank you, Steve.

The balancer will not affect this. can you do the oil pressure test described in the earlier post?

Sure, I just do not want to hurt anything with the ticking on the top end.

the ticking is normally lack of oil at a lash adjuster?hydraulic lifter, it is like having excessive valve clearance. often a lash adjuster becomes clogged with carbon, sludgy oil can be a problem as well, short term will not be a problem to run a few tests.

I need to remove the front motor mount to get to the sender to check the oil pressure. I'm having a hard time getting to the front motor mount bolt it's way tight and in a tight spot with an angle. I even tried my impact gun from the bottom of the car. So I will have to pull the a/c condenser, radiator and fans. I wish there was another way to check the oil pressure. It's going to take a few more days (I can only work on it a couple hours a day) so bare with me. I'll get back to you asap.

Hi, I figured it out. It was the torque on the balancer/bolt. The bolt/balancer has to be torqued enough to run the oil pump..... The Cadillac 4.6 Northstar bolt/ balancer has to be torqued to 37 lb. and 120 degrees or the balancer wont mate to the oil pump and will have little or no oil pressure.
