After driving normally car will not go into gear. Gearshift will move all around and I can see the linkage below moving. But it's like it's not moving anything. There is no resistance moving forward and backwards. Shifter will stay in either forward or after position and stay. Both during off and running.

When I push it forward I can see the rod extend. I'm working on my own so I can't watch it. But it appears to be moving the linkage

Just used a video to confirm. Linkage does move the arm on the transmission when I move it front to back.

Alright if the linkage is moving on the inside doesn't mean it's moving on the transmission.Cable ends break retaining clips pop off etc.

Push the clutch to start. I can just do circles with the shifter. The H pattern isn't there. It doesn't grind or anything even I'm searching for a gear either. With the car on off clutch depressed or at rest

If you can't feel the h pattern and you can't feel it shift into each gear something is wrong with the linkage itself I wish I see/feel what was going on with the shifter.

You think there is an issue with the linkage even though it's moving the arm on the transmission? I could shoot a video of moving it but it's too long to upload. I could upload it to a website and post a link if that would help.

Update: linkage all seems to be in tact it moves the selector arm front to back side to side on the tranny. I moved it by hand all around and it moves like butter. Shouldn't there be resistance when I move it on there?

I took apart the shift fork and found the bolt that runs thru it into the shaft going into the tranny Is broke in 3 pieces so when it moves forward and backwards the shaft doesn't move with it

I had a feeling it was the linkage that's a bolt snapped off?If so you can try to use s punch to spin it out or a reverse drill bit to spin it out.

You drilled the threads out also?If so why?A reverse drill bit usually bites the bolt and spins it out.

The threads were pretty mangled. If the pin doesn't hold I may drill it out slightly bigger and tap it for a new bolt. Do you not think a roll pin will hold?

No I wouldn't use a roll pin there not designed to do that.Get a helicoil kit and put new threads in there make sure you get the one that comes with the drill bit and tap. That's how I would fix it the right way.

Do you know where I could find the part number to replace the whole assembly instead of re threading it. It's badly rusted.

Got it replaced. 2nd 4th and reverse don't shift into well and they work if I kind of slam it into gear. any idea what might be causing that? 1 3 and 5 work great and slide in as expected.

Sounds like something is binding up it's hard to say I can't see see what's going on.Make sure nothing is too tight and binding. With all that rust try lubing up everything up with some deep creep made by sea foam.

There was a plastic piece for when you move left and right that broke off on the transmission end. Likely that would cause this big of an issue? It's basically like it doesn't quite go all the way into gear unless it gets rammed in

So in place of that roll pin I spoke of earlier. Do you think about replacing it with a grade 8 HI-LOK instead?
