Transmission not shifting properly and engine loses power

Hi,

This sounds like it could be related to a few different things. First, I recommend having the computer scanned to see if there are diagnostic trouble codes related to the transmission. Here is a quick video showing how that is done:

I realize most people don't own a scanner, but most parts stores will do it free of charge. If the check engine light stays on when the engine is running, this really should be done.

Next, check the condition and the level of the transmission fluid. Here are the directions for checking:

1) Start the engine and let it idle for 1-2 minutes.

2) Move the select lever through all positions, and then move it to the N position.

3) Drive the vehicle until the fluid temperature rises to the normal temperature (70 - 80°C), and then check the fluid level again. The fluid level must be at the HOT Mark.
