Last night driving home in the rain I had a series of decreases in speed and could feel it in the gas pedal then it would go away then start again. I pulled into the local CHP parking lot and had to leave it as it was dark and didn’t know what was wrong. Engine sounded fine when parked. When the deceleration was happening the car was loud like it was revving then it would stop.

Hi and thanks for using 2CarPros.

Based on your description, the engine would rev and then you experienced a loss of power, sounds like the transmission was slipping. First, check the transmission fluid to confirm it is clean and full. Transmission fluid should be a pinkish color, not brown or black. Also, smell it to determine if it has a burnt smell.

Here is a link that discusses possible issues with transmissions.

Start there and let me know what you find.

Lisa:

I wish that was possible because I love helping people that appreciate it, but as questions come in, they are viewed by a few of us. I'm on every night, so I answer a lot of them, but others do too. Honestly, the people here are all really good at what they do.

I hope to hear from you again.

Take care,

Joe
