Lock mode and CAN errors, codes P1610, P1612, U1000, U1001

Hi, actually it is about my Nissan Elgrand E51 since I didn't find Elgrand therefore I chose Serena. The car is not starting and when I scanned with the obd scanner I found the following codes: P1610, P1612, U1000, U1001.
I am not able to clear these codes as these are coming back. When I turn on the ignition the security key light stays on and the radiator cooling fan will start running and the headlights will also turn on, the cluster lights are also randomly turning on here and there.

If i remove the battery for few days and try again then the car may start once but the cluster will act funny. I have checked all the fuses and battery connections, and the connections are clean. I have also checked and cleaned the ground connections for the ECU, BCM harness and ground connections under the dash (no corrosion).

Any advice to solve these problems is highly appreciated.

Thanks for your reply. I have gone through the guides. With the “Escape for lock mode” procedure the car does starts but only once or twice and even if you repeat the “Escape for lock mode” procedure it won’t start again.

With regards to the power supply circuit for IMMU it shows 5 volts between terminal 8 and ground for couple of seconds only if you switch on the ignition and then it goes back to 0 volt. But if you do not switch on the ignition then there is 0 volt between terminal 8 and ground.

IMMU Terminal 7 and 1 are not connected with the harness therefore relevant testing could not be done.

Continuity exists between IMMU terminal 4 and ground.

What else can I do?

Hello again,

With the key in the "off" position you should have battery voltage between pin 8 and ground. If not you should look for an open in between fuse 59 in your vehicle's fuse and fusible link box in the left side of the engine compartment and the IMMU connector. In the diagrams down below I have included a diagram of the fuse and fusible link box, a call out for it and it;s location, as well as how to find an open in an automotive electrical circuit for you. Please go through these guides and get back to us with what you are able to find out.

Hi, unfortunately my Nissan Elgrand fuse and fusible link box location is different and they are not numbered. I have added some images for your reference. Do you know what is the purpose of fuse 59 then I can try to match it with mine if I could.

The links look good, let look for a power failure at the ECM relay inside IPDM. Here are the locations guides and diagrams to help below:

You could have a bad IPDM which is common it is easy to replace because it self initializes.

Hi, I have removed the IPDM and all its components and visually inspected all the relays and fuses and their contacts. All looks good but however I cleaned them up with 1500 send paper and contact cleaner and put them back. Just to ensure I also swapped the ECM relay with head lamp relay as they were having same part numbers. In general none of the relay is getting hot and I didn't find any physical signs of heat damage or corrosion anywhere in the unit. Do I still need to replace it?

Is there any chance that the ECM itself is malfunctioning and causing these OBD codes and issues?

O yes, we like to check out everything before calling the computer but it does sound like it. Here is the ECU location under the seat, I would check the connectors for corrosion. Check out the diagrams (Below). Please let us know what you find.

Hi, in my Nissan Elgrand the ECM is located at the left side engine compartment. I have removed the wire harness and ECM and inspected the connectors for corrosion or any physical damage but all looks good.

I would get a used/rebuilt ECM and give that a try, btw the IPDM can still be bad even though it looks good.

Lets do a CAN scan to see what comes up here is a video of how it is done.

I have already ordered the ECM last week which is expected to be delivered mid of next week. If it does not help then next try would be IPDM.
Previously I tried to scan different modules i.e. BCM, IPDM, transmission independently with my Maxi Diag scan tool but it says "communication failure" at the time when car is not starting as normal. But when it is starting normal then I was able to scan each module independently without any issues.

I will update you about the used ECM outcome once received and installed/programmed.

Just to update you. I got the ECM on Wednesday and it was cloned this morning by a ECM repair shop. I installed it and scanned and cleared all the stored codes. But unfortunately it just worked for a minute when I revved the engine tachometer started acting funny. Then I switched off and scanned it again and the same codes are back. very disappointing.

Should I look for a used IPDM and give it a try or there is something else I should look before ordering it?
Please let me know your thoughts.

The IPDM go out all the time. Can you please shoot a quick video with your phone so we can see what's going on? that would be great. You can upload it here with your response.

Here are instructions on how to replace the IPDM which is easy because it self initializes. Check out the diagrams (below). Please let us know what you find. Did we ever get the CAN scan done?

Yes the CAN was scanned with my Maxi Diag scan tool.
Today I got my friend's Nissan Elgrand as a donor to test the IPDM of my car.
Unfortunately the IPDM part numbers were little different as his car was one year newer model but I still gave it a try. When I installed it's IPDM into my car there was no change and it showed me all the same symptoms and codes with no start condition. I tried to clear the codes but they came back.
Then I installed my IPDM in his car and his car showed me the same symptoms with no start. That shows my IPDM is faulty, but its bit strange and confusing as his IPDM was not working in my car and not even changing any symptoms.
I also tried his relays to my IPDM in my car but with no luck.
Now I am in search of my IPDM part number. I will update you on the progress.

While watching the videos it looks like the cluster could be shorting out causing the CAN issues as well. I would unplug the cluster and check for corrosion on the terminals.

Did you replace the cluster? If not I would try to find a used unit and plug it in to see what happens. Also try to get the CAN scan done.
