we changed the flywheel and it didn't help the noise can be heard at idle in park or neutral only goes away in gear or when accelerated the noise is itermittent

Did you check the catalyltic converters? If the bed is broken up, you will hear these type of noises.

almost sounds like rod knocking sound not near converters thanks any other suggestions but I will recheck by the converters anyway.

Hopsing, are you sure it's not an engine knock due to a bad connecting rod bearing or main bearing? Low on oil at some point? Overrevved on the highway?

but just to make sure I will hook oil pressure gauge up it just seems to be coming from in between it comes and goes and you don't hear it on deceleration only at idle sometimes it really sounded like loose converter bolts or loose flywheel was wondering if any problems inside converter can sound like that and the sound is not there in gear

I have a 96 chrysler cirrus with a 2.5L engine and it has no fire I have 12 volts coming from asd relay to coil I have injector pass I have 8 volts going into cam sensor cam sensor is working has good waveform as does crank sensor the ignition coil driver wire #6 bk/grey has no voltage or like .7 volts when i use the modis to do atm test on coil nothing changes I got a computer solved nothing I have another dist here and I can't get it to fire I have continuity on the wires HELP and I will add this I put a remand ecm in and it had no communication no injector pulse was all screwed up so they sent me another one I put it in and I was back to where I started except that before this I was able to manuallly fire the coil with the 3rd computer or second however you look at it now I have a dead coil and even plugging up a new dist it does not spark not sure if I have a bad second dist. going in circles rechecked all wires they are good connectors are tight fit HELP

Not a big Chrysler guy myself, but I do know they have a failsafe system for worn, or jumped timing belts, try unplugging the cam sensor, see if it starts. if it does, timing is off, check belt!

dist burnt out computer four dist and six computers before I got a working set when parts are bad you start second guessing yourself
