thermostat Replacement

I just got a 1999 Lincoln Town car that had a leak so I replaced the seal and it still leaked. I cleaned the housing with a solvent and ran the motor until it got hot. Parked it and watched the housing and found that it was seeping out of a crack in the housing. These manifolds of plastic crack a lot. I put Bondo on the crack and it lasted 3,ooo miles. Then I put super glue which sealed it. Now a little leak which means a new manifold.

How difficult is it to change the thermostat on my 4.6 engine

follow the upper hose to the intake manifold. remove the hose there. remove the 2 10 mm bolts and there it is

First I would like to thank both Docfixit, and rasmataz for answering my previous post. I think I should have told you the problem not my diagnosis of it. There is a leak between the upper intake manifold and the water outlet
I figured it was the thermostat so I purchased a new thermostat and "O" ring put them in and it still leaked. I then took it apart put on some RTV silicone as directed and it still leaks though not as much. The thermostat came with a washer that fit around the thermostat housing but when that washer is in place I cannot put the thermostat into the housing. I don't know what else to do. I do not see any cracks. Thanks again for your help

The only thing I see is that there is a rubber gasket that fits over the edge all around the thermastat. it is made of rubber. This keeps the thermastat in the intake housing. Then the thermatat gasket goes onto the intake housing. then the outlet that the rubber hose that goes to the radiator goes on. Make sure the area is cleaned really good so no silicone is left to cause the leak. You can use some new sealent when you put the housing back together. Don't overtighten the bolts. Snug them up enough and let the sealent dry a little. then retighten them up. Also check the housing for any pitting or minor cracks. If you find it is really pitted then you can pick up a new one at a local auto parts store. I have not see a thermastat where a metal wahser went over the thermastat.

Hi joexray10, Welcome to 2carpros and TY for the donation Service and Repair REMOVAL CAUTION: Do not mix standard (green) coolant with Extended Life Coolant (orange). If this contamination occurs the service change interval on Extended Life Coolant will be reduced from 6 years/150,000 miles to 3 years/30,000 miles. Drain coolant below water thermostat.

Remove the screw and cover.

Remove the bolts from the water hose connection.

Position the water hose connection and the upper radiator hose out of the way.

Remove the water thermostat and the O-ring from the intake manifold. INSTALLATION

Follow the removal procedure in reverse order. Fill the cooling system.

Hi Drain some coolant then remove top radiator hose fron thermostat housing. Remove two housing bolts then housiong and thermostat.
