Firing order please?

if there are no plug wires attached to plugs, or coil pack how can I match them up

Engine Performance problem
1989 Lincoln Town Car V8 Two Wheel Drive Automatic

what is the proper firing order for the plug wires?
Which cylinder is the number one cylinder?

What is the correct firing order for this vehicle? I seem to have placed new wires on new distributor cap incorrectly. Or is it possible that my failure to put dielectic grease on the new rotor tip would effect engine performance?

You may need to try both in case you have a HO engine, which has a different firing order

i am trying to replace the coils and wires on my car listed above but i can't seem to understand the function of the firing order. Can you give me a diagram or explain which wires go to what cylinder?
