The cruise control is not working on my 1996 Lincoln Town Car. The 15amp Fuse is ok but when I press the ON button, there is no cruise light displayed on the drivers control panel. The cruise control will not function. Thank you for any information on this issue.

first to check is fuses and ensure brake lights are working properly. does the cruise indicator light in dash come on when trying to active CC system? It sounds like the clock spring behind the steering wheel is shorted which is common.

Cruise control will not come on. Checked #8 and #10 fuses under dash. Checked #18 under hood. All fuses were fine. Horn works and panel switches on opposite side of steering wheel work fine. Saw that there might have been a recall on cruise swich.

Have you fixed it yet? How mechanical are you? If I walk you through some test would you comfortable enough to do them? Thanks and get back to me.

The cruise control will work sometimes and not work sometimes. #2 I guess the car has air sucks or bags on the rear end of the car? They will not deflate.

teh cruise may be the switch so will need to be checked to see if it is or not or a bad connection or vacuum leak. the air bags will need to be scanned or if you can hear the pump run then it may be an leak at rear shocks.

When driving the car the cruise control performs perfectly. However, once I stop the car and turn the engine off, when I restart and resume driving the cruise control will not stay engaged.

Get the speed control amplifier and speed sensor checked/get a read out from the cruise control computer for further diagnosis.

The cruise control pulses when engaged. The change in speed is about +/- 3 MPH and is very aggravating. The pulse/cycle is continous and is about 10-15 times a minute.

Another problem is the brakes. They feel very low and sometimes the pedal will go to the floor when sitting still in traffic.

Also, is there some way to de-boost the power steering?? It feels so loose, especially after driving another vehicle. The road feel is almost non-existant.

The brakes sounds like the master cylinder is by-passing internally. If you slowly push down it will sink, but if pushed hard and fast it will have a pedal. The P/S- never have heard of a way to take assist away.....Town cars werent exactly designed for "road feel" more to not feel the road. what Town car is it ? Cartier, Executive or Signature? need to know for the wiring diagrams for the cruise
