My son just bought a 89 town car and its beatiful inside and out. The trouble is.....

at idle in park, the throttle responds perfectly with zero hesitation. It idles smooth as silk and shows no roughness at all while in park. Put it in gear though and try to accelorate and it has no get up and go. it doesnt cough or sputter, it just hesitates for twenty seconds or so as it slowly comes up to highway speed. We were told the cat converter is newish....{less than two years}......at highway speeds it runs sweet. But gettin there is way slow. Theres no black smoke as in too rich a mix....in fact thers no smoke at all. I'm stumped on this one. Any helped would be apreciated.
