1999 Lincoln Navigator Coil #5 getting blown.

I get the "Check Engine" light and the diagnostic gives a p0355 for Coil E. I have replaced the coil and plug but light came back on after a long while. Had the coil and plug replaced again, light came back on (much sooner this time) and coil seemed and smelled burnt. Right now I have a new coil but am not driving it. What could be causing the coil to go bad so consistently? Local shop says the "underhood wire harness" needs to be replaced. What to do?

They may be right, or at least part right! You should use an ohm meter and unplug the connector at the coil and at the end of the harness, check the resistance of the same color wires at both ends, one lead at each end, reading should be zero, if higher, you can untape the harness, or run 2 new wires to that injector.

Test the wires b4 you replace parts...wireing could be the problem, if it turns out to be the connector, chevy sells the parts.
