1998 Lincoln Navigator pinion bearing

In order to replace the pinion bearings, the entire rear differential has to be disassembled. The ring gear and carrier have to be removed to remove the pinion gear. The inner bearing is pressed onto the pinion shaft as is the outer. After replacing the the bearings and races, the pinion depth must be set and torqued properly. Then the carrier is re-shimmed and installed. If you have a reputable shop doing the work, the labor should be somewhere in the neighborhood of 5 hours. Parts will probably be around $100-$125 including fluid and seals.
