I HAVE A 98 LINCOLN NAVIGATOR WHEN DRIVING I CAN HEAR AND FEEL A CLUNKING NOISE COMING FROM THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE BOTTOM. I REPLACED THE UPPER CONTROL ARMS BALL JOINTS BOTH SIDES, REPLACED LOWER BALL JOINTS ON BOTH SIDES AND CHANGED THE DRIVE AXEL ON DRIVER SIDE. I STILL HAVE THE CLUNKING NOISE. SEEMS LIKE THE CLUNKING
NOISE IS COMING FROM SOMETHING THAT IS SPINNING AND NOT SOMETHING THAT IS STATIONARY LIKE BUSHINGS OR BALL JOINTS. ONLY THING LEFT TO CHECK IS THE FRONT DIFFERENTIAL? ANY HELP WOULD BE GREAT...THANX

check the rubber grommets on your front end, grab the drag rod, and tie rods and try turning them with your hands, if they move replace the gromets. check the cv boots also.

does it do it when hitting bumps? or turning?

IT DOES IT WHEN DRIVING STRAIGHT NO BUMPS IT JUST DOES IT. BUT NOT ALL THE TIME. IT COMES AND GOES AND IT SEEMS LIKE ITS A PART THAT IS ROTATING. ITS LIKE A ROTATING CLUNK CLUNK CLUNK CLUNK. IT DOES IT ON FLAT ROADS,TURNING DOESNT MAKE A DIFFERENCE. I REPLACED THE FRONT AXLE SO IT ISNT THE CV BOOT. WHAT AND WHERE IS THE GROMETS? COULD THIS BE MYFRONT DIFFERENTIAL? SEEMS LIKE IT COMES FROM WHERE MY FEET ARE IN THE DRIVERS SIDE.

dont worry about the grommets because i though you meant when you go over bumps, i will get back to you in the morning on this.

I HOPE U CAN HELP ME I ALREADY SPENT SO MUCH MONEY ON NEW PARTS AND INSTALLATION AND I'VE GOTTEN NO WHERE SO FAR. SO ANY LITTLE HELP WILL GO ALONG WAY....THANX

when it clunks if you accelerate does it clunk rytimatically faster same for slowing down?

is it rythmatic

the clunking sound stays the same whether going fast or slow. maybe 10 seconds apart. but it comes and goes.

this is where i would put the car up on a lift and run it at different rpms and brakeing trying to reproduce it, if it doesnt reproduce then its not by moving parts and you should check the struts and strut mounts.
