2005 Lincoln LS Missfire / Backfire

What ECM codes did they pull?
This sounds like a situation that requires a little "creative maneuvering". It sounds like the dealer believes the convertor is bad and under warranty, hence they have to replace it for free. To help offset the "freebee" they can sell you 4 coils and whatever else they can squeeze in. You may want to get a 2nd opinion. If one or two of the coils test bad, have them changed, by whomever you choose, and have them explain to you whatever else you may need. Take the reciepts back to the dealer and ask about the convertor. You can go from there. The one thing we try to impress upon people is, you are in charge, not the dealer. It's your money. I spoke with the service manager and he did not have the ECM codes? He said that the #1 & 6 coil needed replacing. I replaced the #1 coil 5 months ago? He told me that the top manifold had to be removed in order to replace the #1 coil. I told him that I did not have to remove anything when I replaced it 5 months ago. I am going for my car, I will replace thos two coils, then, I will go back and tell them to please replace my converter.

Sounds like a plan to me. Let me know how it comes out. Not that I'm against dealerships by any means. They're so used to people giving them a painful look and then writing the check, they're not used to being questioned. You get 2 "ataboys" for that one.

The only ECM code pulled was P302? The service manager mentioned an inbalance between the #1 & #6 cylinders? What could they of done to my car, it runs better...I don't notice the misfire anymore? Should I go ahead and replace the two coils and then take it back for the converter?

You could go ahead and change the coils, if you want to. It surely can't hurt anything. Your saving yourself $85+ an hour for labor charges. Also, I can hear the dealer saying, "We can't change the convertor under warranty 'cause the bad coils will ruin it".
