Tail Light Replacement

My wife car has over a 100,000 miles. I've replaced calipers & pads, but now I need to replace the left tail light.

It's not intuitively obvious whether the rubber "boot" for the light should pull out of the metal frame it is in.

I've tried rotating and pulling, thinking there might be a key type installation, but to no avail.

REMOVAL
1. Lift luggage compartment door and remove trim panel.

NOTE: The bulbs contained in the rear lamp reflector are non-serviceable. The rear lamp reflector is replaced as an assembly.

2. Disconnect rear lamp reflector wiring from body main wiring.
3. Remove 8 bolts and 4 nuts retaining rear lamp reflector to luggage compartment door.
4. Pull rear lamp reflector away from vehicle.
5. Remove rubber grommet (that contains the wire harness) from the luggage compartment door.
6. Remove rear lamp reflector from vehicle.

INSTALLATION
1. Follow removal procedure in reverse order.

how do you change the light bulb fro the brake light on the rear of the car

First, you don't have a "V-12" in your car. Lincoln doesn't make these motors. There was only one engine option for you car and that is a "4.6L DOHC V-8".

Here's the procedure for removing your brake lamp. You must remove the entire assembly to remove the bulb.

REMOVAL

From inside luggage compartment, remove lower back panel trim cover.
Remove rear lamp sockets from rear lamp body.
Remove bolts and grommet retaining rear lamp body to lower back panel. Remove rear lamp.
INSTALLATION


Follow removal procedure in reverse order NOTE: Inspect rear lamp lens retainers to make sure seal is intact or a water leak may result.

I have the lower bulb, passenger side to replace in the rear of the car. It appears in my manual as a "see a certified mechanic at the dealership" for replacement. It appears that I need to do more than just pull a socket out of the firewall and probably remove the truck carpeting to remove the rear light instrument in order to replace the bulb. Did NOT want to do this without consulting with a manual but the manual I purchased from you has no reference to this nor are there any instructions in the Ford book that came with the car other than see qualified mechanic at Lincoln dealership. Can't be that hard can it? Thanks, Walter :shock: :shock:

Hmmmm,I cant find anything either.All I can tell you is to take a good long look all around before you start to remove anything. None of this surprises me,being a Ford by-product
