1990 Lincoln Continental dcl light

My dcl light comes on every so often and stays on for a while but then sometimes it goes off and stays off. The car dosent run any differently when the light is on but i would like to know what the reason for this is and if it is dangerous in anyway?

I am having the same problem with a 94 I just bought! Also the Check engine light and alarm come on intermttently as well. All I can find in an exhaustive internet search for this problem cause and repair is that these 1991 thru 1994 electronic message ceneter systems seem to be plagued with electirc gremlins. When mine come on, just like yours, there is no difference in hope the car runs or rides, and no difference in the engine operation as well. Just very annoying, and frustrating that I cannot find any information on this.
