Hi,

If you want to replace the ECU, it has to be the same year, make, and model. The part numbers must match.

Do you know what diagnostic trouble codes were found? If you can provide that, I may be able to identify possible causes.

Hi Joe,

The codes came back as 2 injectors not working, but we replaced all the injectors for reconditioned last year, all seals also, it has the Siemens injectors which I am told by multiple mechanics are an issue as they are unreliable. I will ask the mechanic if they can give me the codes, so I can post here. I think I have the only Diesel Fiesta of that year here on the island, and they didn't make one in the states that year at that engine type so I have to order parts from Europe. The mechanic has stated that there is a significant difference in mileage on the odometer and ECU I have read that is is normal for there to be some difference, but is it normal to have a large difference in mileage? do you think doing a reset on the ECU might help? I want to just get rid of the car but I can't sell it not running.

They didn't make many of them with a diesel. As far at the injectors, have you checked to see if they are getting a pulse to inject? Also, if you have the exact codes, it may help. As far as the mileage, that shouldn't happen.

Hi Joe,

So I finally managed to get the codes from the mechanic they are as follows (the report is in french so I will just give you the codes for now, if you need more please let me know.
FCDIM - U1A00
IPC - U3006
PCM - P1204 / P1203 / P0606

The mechanic has mentioned that he is going to try to move the injectors around and then see if he gets the same fault, that should confirm if its an ECU problem? I have attached the report, but it is in French, if you have any ideas, or think we could be doing anything else, its been 3 years now and I would like to just get it running so I can sell it and buy a car that runs, lol.

Hi,

Based on the codes, you have a couple issues happening. However, I feel you need to start with the P1203 and 1204. Those codes indicate there is an issue with the injectors in cylinders 3 and 4. Has anyone done anything with the injectors at this point?

If nothing has been done, have your mechanic clear the codes and then see if the P0606 returns. If it does, in most cases that indicates an internal fault from the PCM which would require testing of that module.

HI Joe,

We changed all 4 injectors last year, the car has not been driven since as we got half way home and it went into limp mode again so it went straight back to the mechanic, since then it has gone to a new mechanic as the previous one has ben ill and has changed location. When we changed the injectors (for reconditioned as it was too expensive to purchase 4 new) we also changed the fuel injector leak of return pipes, injector seals and washers.
The plan at present is to switch injectors 3 and 4 with 1 and 2 and then see what the computer read says, from there if it still picks up 3 and 4 we will know it is an PCM issue, at least that seems to be the idea? what do you think of this idea? of course this will cost more again to remove and switch the injectors around but at least we might get a final answer?
So if it does finally turn out that it is the PCM problem, how easy is it to switch out the PCM? how easy is it going to be to get the part? I am guessing this is not something I will be able. to purchase 2nd hand at a breakers? I don't want to invest too much more money as I just want to sell it after.

Try a reset and see if it makes a difference.
