When I turn the ignition off the light that reads PRN2 stays lit, the key doesn't turn all the way to turn it off. I did manage to get it to turn off but I don't remember how I did it.

Sounds like the shift interlock has failed. This is what releases the key when you put the vehicle in park.

So if it is going to park and it is not releasing the key then I would expect the PRNDL lights to stay on until the key goes to the off position.

So I would address the key not removing first and go from there. I attached the info below on how to adjust the solenoid which is what I would do first.

Please take a look at this info and let us know if you have other questions. Then let us know how you make out with this. Thanks

I'm sorry I don't think I explained it correctly. The key does turn just not enough backwards to turn the PRN2 panel off. The previous owner said to pull up on the gear shift a little and that gets the light to turn off and the key to go backwards enough to turn the light off. Is there a switch in the gear shift that controls this? I'm tired of having a dead battery. Thank you, Cherie

Does the key remove when you turn it off? Maybe if you get a video of this, it will help get us on the same page.

However, this still sounds like a shift interlock issue because that needs to read it is in part to release the key and allow it to turn all the way backwards.

I think seeing the issue will really help get us on the same page if you think this is still not the issue.
