1995 Lexus SC 400 A/C compressor frozen up

1995 Lexus SC 400 V8 Two Wheel Drive Automatic

The compressor on the vehicle has frozen and will not turn. The belt is just slipping over the pulley. I talked with a shop and they indicated that not only due I need to replace the compressor, but the condenser, dryer, expansion valve and then have the system flushed. Another A/C person that advised that the compressor will have to be replaced but the system can be flushed with the only other replacemnet would be to dryer. What is right?

The condensor is a radiator type coil behind or in front of the radiator. The filter dryer/reciever is filled with a desicant drying agent that removes moisture and impurties. An expansion vavle is a metering device that meters the amounts of freon as is enters into the coil behind your dash. Flushing the system removes impurties, can help pressure test and look for leaks, (May be in the condensor, and that is why mechanic #1 says replace it.) You go with him, it will cost alot of money, but will have a guarantee on all parts and labor. The cheaper way out may work for awhile, and tear up more, and cost you more. Either way, you are going to spend money. I am not an expert, but own a 1994 and mine is locked up as well. But I do repair a\c in homes and from time to time cars. Hopes this helps...good luck. Looks like you waited for an answer for a little bit, but hopes my answer helps others. A/C work is not easy, and best left to the shop. You must own a EPA certification (Which I do) to purchase or use freon. And you must know exactly what to do. As the old saying goes, I cannot tell you why your wife is so mad, so I can't tell you what is up with you a/c without seeing it.
