My car is a 1995 Lexus ES300 w/86K miles.
The check engine light has come on. I thought it was from my wife not putting the gas cap on fully.

There is an OBD1 connector under the dash. Looking at some info on the dianostics I jumpered TE1 to E1. It wouldn't initiate code indicator.

So I reset the EF1 to see if the fault would repeat. (the car seems to run OK)

The Check engine light came back on in two days retured in 2 days. I tried jumpering agian only to notice that there is no pin at TE1-jumber goes all the way into connector.

So my question is how can I read the daignostic code. Is ther another connector in the engine compartment?

Hey rg,
there should be the same connector under hood, try jumpering the same and the CEL should give ya the code. Let us know!

Found the diagnostic socket under the hood.
So I followed the procedure:
Engine at normal operating temp
Hand brake on
Car in neutral and ignition in ON position
Nothing else on
Jumper from E1 to TE1

No blinking Check Engine Light

Please suggest alternatives/or corrections to procedures.

Thanks

Hey,
Your procedure looks good ....only... your key on engine off, right? If so, I would have to recommend further diagnostics at a trusted repair shop! Let us know
