2004 Lexus LS 430 90,000 recommended service

I am shocked to learn that my Lexus dealer wants over $3,000 for my 90,000 mile service.
I am told that a big part of the service is their changing the timing chain.

What if I don't change the timing chain? If it breaks, will it cost me more to replace it then than it will now.
do you feel that the change is worth it or might I be able to just keep on as is?
My wife Toyota has never had a new timing chain and it has 140,000 miles

your vehicle is equipped with a timing belt, not a chain. it is necessary to replace your vehicle's timing belt every 90,000 miles. if the belt fails during vehicle operation, it will cause major internal damage to the engine (bent valves , etc..). So like they always say, you can pay the mechanics now or you can pay them later..either way you will be paying out for a repair. I suggest doing it now as timing belt replacement is no where near the cost of replacing your vehicle's engine..
