1993 Lexus LS 400 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

what would cause the dashboard lights to come on at startup then go out and how do I repair that

I had the same problem on a '93 LS400. The circuit board on the dash module needs to be replaced or fixed. The whole unit that houses the speedo and all pulls out very easily as one complete unit. I'm in South Florida and I had a guy repair it for less than $300. I went to a Lexus dealer and they wanted over $1700!! The guy who repaired the dash unit did all the side work for the Lexus dealer too.

does the whole dash board have to be torn apart and is that a big job ?

No...and it's a real clean R&R too. The entire instrument cluster is one unit and removes easily with a few screws to detach and repair. In other words...what you see in the cluster / housing is all that's removed! The dash is not bothered at all. The circuit board that needs to be replaced is attached to the instrument cluster.

And the electrical connectors on the back side of the cluster ( speedo and other gauges ) just unplug from the cluster. Once the circuit board is repaired / replaced they just snap back on and the cluster is just dropped back into the dash housing.

Couldn't be any cleaner than that!

It's a clean and easy operation for any skilled tech. I tried to be as clear and concise as possible, that's all. If there were any horror stories or cautions to add...I would have done so..OK?

It's almost as simple as changing a headlight or taillight bulb! And you wouldn't have to remove the bumpers or sheet metal around the lights to do that...now would you?

Tkphoto where in south florida did you get your cluster repaired? Any info would be appreciated.
