1990 Lexus LS 400 shifts sometimes

some times the car will shift but if not it will just stay in first gear.the safety neutral switch make a loud click when i in gage the break also the reverse like comes on the dash!

Sounds like the trans position switch is going out in it. The click is normal, shift-lock to keep it frrom being put into gear without brake applied

common older ls400 problem.

go back in the trunk. on the driver's side trunk hinge there are some wires. these wires are broken and rubbing up against each other. repair the wires and you'll be good to go.
