transmission removal

Can the transmission be removed without taking the engine out, and does it come out from the bottom of the car or top. I think the bottom, any special tricks for this. Also how do you take out the center shaft and the short side shafts.

Start by draining the coolant and disconnecting the battery here are diagrams with instructions on how to remove the transmission from you car. Check out the diagrams (Below). Please let us know if you need anything else to get the problem fixed.

I put in a used but good transmission pump and now the car wont move at all. It acts like it is stuck in gear and will not go into neutral even when the car is off. When in park or drive it acts like it wants to go but doesn't. It is like it is locked up or something.

This isnt really a good DIY project, the car has to be lifted high enough and the engine supported from above so the front sub-member (frame) can be removed while the engine is hanging from above.If you have access to a lift, then pull the starter, air box, unplug all electrical, upper bell housing bolts. Install engine hanger then go underneath, remove frront wheels, axles, unbolt torque converter, remove sub-frame, last of the belll housing bolts

Dealer quoted $3700.00 for a transmission replacement, is this fair?

this is standard at a dealer .. an independant trans shop will cost in the region of $1800 - $2500 depending on what is actually wrong with trans and which shop you use !!
