Engine overheating

It sounds like the water pump or radiator is leaking but to be sure here is a guide that will helps us find out where the coolant is going.

I had this problem and had to replace the radiator, I got a new for $160.00 all set :)

discovery is overheating..have changed the thermostat,flushed & re-filled the system, noticed the heater is not working

Heater not working you mean no hot air-if this is correct-check the radiator if its clogged,water pump operation and air in the cooling system

thanks,yes heater is not giving any hot air,have flushed system 3 times all appears clear,replaced thermostat & pump appears to be working so if it is air in system how do i clear it?

I have recently serviced my cooling system by replacing the thermostat, water pump, hoses, coolant, radiator, viscous fan and fan blade. My issues is that my truck overheats in bumper to bumper traffic of if sitting with the engine running for an extended period of time. The system was pressure tested and checked for exhaust gases and both were negative. Can you please help. I am completely stumped.

if there is no fan shroud on radiator then the fan cannot lock up to work. If it is boiling out of radiator/overflow then it may be a head gasket problem still. check radiator for cold spots if any radiator is clogged.

Radiator is new. Car is not boiling over. Just high temperature. Looking to fix this before it gets to that point. Also, fan shroud is in place.

When the engine is running hot can you here the engine fan engage? If so then the head gasket can still be blown even with a chemical test being negative but it is only about 75% accurate.

Truck has vicious fan that has been replaced and electric fans which kick on when the ac is on and both work and engage. It might be helpful to note that the truck was not running hot prior to the maintenance. This started after maintenance

The first place I would start would be with the thermostat. I would get a factory unit becasue it could have a different the aftermarket guys might be missing. Did the new one look different?

you can replace the thermostat or get the additive at auto parts for coolant it will cool it down by twenty degrees or so. also, get a thermometer that is infra red they are pretty cheap at auto parts and see what that reads because the gauge may be off. also if not a 50/50 mix on coolant it may be messing up your sending unit/sensor on engine.

I have a Land Rover discovery 300TDi 2.5 turbo diesel, my issue is that it will over heat only on long inclines, when it reaches the top and the load is off and going down hill it cools off back to normal, it has a new radiator new thermostat new viscous coupling, engine fans are coming on at the correct temp the pressure cap is holding pressure but it is not new (about 2 years old) and the water pump is the only old component that has not been changed. you can run all day with the A/C on with no problem just long up hill driving is the issue, any thoughts

What I recommend is using a colder thermostat if you doing these up-hill driving trips a lot. Maybe find one thats about 15-20 degrees colder.

put a new water pump in and new thermostat and drive for about 7 miles and put it in park it starts over heating and it ildes really high like 200 rpm or 2000 don't now what to do

had heads rebuilt then couple weeks later engine indicated it was overheating i bypassed the thermostat and it quit overheating but the heater wouldnt work so i got a new thermostat and installed it but now it indicates its overheating i can drive it for about ten minutes and its fine then all of a sudden the gauge goes up. it runs great could it be air in the system ,fan,radiator is there another thermostat ,bad sensor. help

flush the cooling system for blockages .. have a technician check you have good circulation .. the water pump may be faulty
