Lack of power, code P0430

Hello, I have an intermittent code P0430 that has came and gone at least a dozen times over the last two years. The vehicle has a general lack of power and an extremely rich smell from exhaust. I am aware that code P0430 is for bank to catalytic converter but I am wondering if I possibly have an issue with an oxygen sensor that is causing a catalytic converter code to be present and more importantly causing my draft ability issue of lack of power.

Any assistance you can provide in diagnostic testing or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Hello, I am Danny.

An oxygen sensor just gathers information. It is obvious the catalytic converter is not performing well/defective. It is possible the honeycomb structure inside is failing and is now plugging the converter and causing poor engine performance. I have attached a few tutorials for you to view. The code indicates the catalytic converter isn't working properly. Replacing the oxygen sensors may sometimes fix the problem, but in most cases the catalytic convert needs to be replaced.

The picture I attached comes from Alldata and shows possible causes of this code. Take a look at it. Next, there are other things which can cause it other than a bad converter. Leaking fuel injector, faulty spark plugs, ignition timing, clogged air filter, are all possibilities.

Check the things I mentioned and let me know what you find. I hope this helps.
