A few months ago, I bought the vehicle listed above. It had a check engine light pop up, so I bought a code reader to find out what was going on. It being a used car that i bought for a good price, it had a few problems that needed to be fixed. I fixed the majority, leaving just 2 smaller ones that don't need my attention immediately. I noticed the gas mileage seems pretty low only getting about 14.5 miles a gallon and occasionally it has some slightly jerky shifting, but I've been driving it daily. About 3 weeks ago I brought it to a touchless car wash and was offered a deal for a month of car washes that I took. When I got home, I checked the code reader as I've been doing pretty often just to make sure nothing else is going on and it had a pending code for a knock sensor bank 2. I drove it around for a few days and there were no problems, so I cleared the code and moved on. About a week later I went back to the car wash again because I've already paid for a months' worth, I'm going to go at least weekly, and the same thing happened when I got back home. This has happened every time since. Is this normal? How can I fix this? It's driving fine other than the issues I stated previously. All I can think of is it's getting wet and causing it to short but I'm not sure if it's the harness or the sensor itself. I would prefer not to replace the sensor unless I'm 100% sure it will help the issue. Thanks for everyone's help!

Hi,

In most cases, a faulty knock sensor will not fix itself. In this case and based on the location of the bank 2 sensor, I would say it has to be something getting wet.

I attached a pic below so you can locate the sensor. Check to see if there is any wire damage that could cause it to short. Note, it is a little difficult to access it because of the location but check for any wires that could have damaged insulation.

Let me know.

Joe
