The problem that I am having is that when I sit in start and stop traffic, the RPM's will surge to 3000 -3500 if the car is put into park. For a while, I could turn on the AC and the RPM would go back down, but that doesn't seem to work any longer. I have taken this to the KIA dealership to repair; however, they have not been able to re-create the problem. Probably because they are no driving the car long enough and starting and stoping for this to happen. They have told me that I should do a throttle body cleaning. Does this sound accurate or should I tell them to look for something else?

Has the check engine light ever come on? It sounds like a problem with the throttle position sensor or idle air control valve problem, but I can't be sure if the light has come on.
