I just went for an Estimate on replacing the Timing Belt in my 1999 Kia Sportage. I was told that in order to replace the Timing Belt the Water Pump would have to be removed and replaced as well. I was given a labor estimate of 539.00 just to remove and install a new water pump. In comparison the labor to remove and replace the Timing Belt was 115.00 in addition to the cost of Parts.
My question is does the Water Pump have to be taken off in order to get to the Timing Belt to replace it? Or are they just trying to take advantage of a seemingly helpless Female?
