Engine Cooling problem
1999 Kia Sportage 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic

Hello again, electric radiator fan doesn't come on and car overheats when air cond. is used. I need to know what to check out in tracking this down. The proceedures I should use and where the parts are located on the car that I may need to replace. I can't find a manual anywhere.

Hello, Well there are a couple possibilities... If engine light is on then could be the Coolant Temp Sensor. Or it could be the Coolant Fan itself. To test Coolant Sensor you will need to remove it. Place it in container of water measure resistance between terminals. Slowly heat water.... -6 degrees F (-20C) Resistance should be 14.6 - 17.8 68 degrees F (20C) Resistance should be 2.2 - 2.7 176 degrees F (80C) Resistance should be .290 - .354 Fan Test 1.Disconnect fan motor connector. Connect ammeter between battery and cooling fan motor connector. See Fig. 1 below . Cooling fan should operate smoothly. 2.Check ammeter reading while cooling fan is in operation. If cooling fan does not operate smoothly or amperage draw is not 8-13 amps, replace fan motor.
