2005 Kia Spectra compressor goes on off on off on off on of

This has been going on for 2 summers. It works in the spring, ICE FREAKIN cold air, then summer comes, and it'll blow cold air for a day or so , then stop....you can hear the compressor kicking on and off every 2-3 seconds. Then out of nowhere kicks on and stays on for days, then same problem. Older guy at work said it sounded like it was low on freon. So I bought one of those re-charge kits at Auto Zone..had the guage on it to test charge.

This morning I tested it it was showing about 25psi...Awesome it's low! Filled it up to around 55 psi like the can said for being 90-95 out. That's when I noticed the compressor going on off...on off.

Help...does this mean the compressor is going...or it a thermostat issue? The other day I fought with it 11 miles to work...to lunch...and then I pulled into shady spot under a tree...started working. Worked all the way back work...sat in the sun in the parking lot at 96 or so...the got in at 9pm to go home....11 more miles just about FROZE! Get in the next morning...nothing...freakin nothing...been that way all weekend through today Monday[/quote:0a1ac9057a]


im having the same problem.. when your in the sun it dont seem to work as good when your in the shade. specially in the after noon it work great.. if you find out any answers please let me know i also got a 2005 kia spectra5.

Hi. I am having the same problem and my local mechanic was offering a free AC inspection. He told me that my thermistor was bad and that the switch needed replacing. He also said that the thermistor let the ac know when it was too cold and would shut the compressor off. The signal it is giving out is that it is too cold when it is actually too hot. He said it was going to cost $500 in labor for a $100 part. Hopefully I can find somewhere cheaper. Hope this helps!
