Dear Car Pros,
I drive a 2003 Kia Rio with about 51000 on it. I'm a 20 year guy who is reality familiar around cars. My question concerns a noise that my car started making about 2 months ago and has successfully drove me insane (no pun intended). The car began making this noise when I was driving back from a trip to California; from my home in Arizona. It was the 2nd time I had made the trip and nothing happened out of the ordinary on the way there. The noise is hard to explain and to do so would probably be silly but the best I can equate it to is, the noise a large vehicle makes with very large tires. Kind of a whirling sound that gets louder that faster I go and by the time I’m going 50 MPH on the freeway the noise is completely unbearable. I’ve had to oil changed and I just bought new tires today (March 11th, 2009) hoping that would solve the problem, but no luck. Do you have any suggestions or ideas about what’s wrong? One more piece of evidence is that car’s muffler that I just realized sounds strangely loud when I heard my girlfriend drive off yesterday.
Thanks for your help sincerely,
Alexander Wilson
