New question to "the alternator is not installed correctly. im assuming when the engine was replaced the mechanic who installed it left out a spacer for the alternator and when the alternator is now being installed when the bolts are tightened the alternator case is being distorted causing it to fail. i have seen this before."

If the spacer is installed, will I need a new alternator
or is it ruined by the incorrect installation?

yes your alternator should be fine , you just need to put the right spacer in place.

funny thats what i always called it. your gonna have to bring it to your local shop and show it to them if possible. take a picture or draw a diagram. because some of these idiots have no idea... or you can go to the parts place have them pull a alternator and show them what it is that u need
