I purchased a used 2004 Kia Optima with 30,000 miles on it (now it's 61,000) about a year ago. The temperature gauge keeps going up into the red in certain conditions. I drive a long downhill grade to work in the morning and a long uphill grade in the evening. It's about 60 miles each way. The gauge always goes up into the red on my way home (going uphill). It stays there for sometimes as long as 10 minutes, then drops back down to normal. Then goes back up to red and down a few times. This never happens going downhill or on a flat road. I took it into the Kia dealer last year and they checked everything (thermostat, sensors, etc.) and found nothing wrong. I also took it to my personal mechanic and he found nothing wrong. I am unable to recreate the situation except for on this one stretch of freeway going uphill!! Also, after the Kia dealership checked it out, the problem stopped for a few months and then returned. Any ideas?
