Engine Performance problem

I have been having a problem lately with getting my car to start. I have been having to push on the gas pedal as i am turning over my key. I know that it is not the battery because my radio and everything else will turn on, however my check engine light was on and i had it looked at and it was the oxygen sensor. I am wondering why my car will not start without having to push on the gas pedal. It seems that it only does this once my car has been sitting for a little while. Mostly in the morning after i have the first inital start up through out the day when i start it it seems fine and normal. So my question I guess would be why is my car which is practally new not working right?
