Unable to turn key to remove it the from ignition switch. So, I disconnected the cable to the battery to keep from draining my battery. Only then will the key come out of the switch. Won't turn pass axillary position.

Hi,

I'm trying to understand. The key will come out of the switch when the battery is disconnected? Is the shifter lever engaging fully into park? Can you hear the park interlock actuator click when you press the brake pedal?

If you look at the attached pic, it shows how the interlock and ignition work together.

Let me know.

Yes, the key will come out once battery is disconnected. Yes, the shift lever seems to engage fully into park. But not sure about any sound from the actuator. I'll check on it on the morning.
Thank you very much!

Hello, my husband just checked each fuse in the motor box, none are burned out. But, was unable to check the relays. The gear shifter and brake does make the clicking noise when it engages. What now?

Okay, I have one last fuse to check and what will sound like a stupid question. The fuse is in the vehicle (see pic attached). The stupid question is this. Are the brake lights working?

Let me know.

Can you confirm the ignition is in the lock position? Can you please shoot a quick video with your phone so we can see what's going on? that would be great. You can upload it here with your response.

Okay. I know that sounds like a crazy question, but the brake switch is what releases the lock. Have you checked the other fuse I suggested? Also, is it possible to upload a video as Ken mentioned?

Hi,

Just an FYI... I did some additional research on this issue and think I found a solution. There is a micro switch on the side of the shift assembly (under the trim) that has a simple steel tab that actuates when the vehicle is in park. It seems the metal tab bends and prevents the switch from releasing the interlock in the column. If you are told to replace the entire shift assembly, let me know. I will try to walk you through checking and repairing this issue.

Take care,
Joe

Hello, okay finally got my car back. it was the solenoid switch to the key ignition. All is good now and I was told to make sure I remove the key more slowly, in case I'm pulling it out to quickly.
Thank you for your advice and help in this matter.
