Purchase a second hand steel wheel and tire, center bore is damaged and not circular

Just bought a second hand steel wheel and tire to use as a spare as none with the car.
The center bore is damaged and not circular like a potatoes) is it safe to use?

Hi Cardiffman,

The center hole is just a centering hole that goes around the hub. As long as the wheel goes on the studs and bolts down flush to allow the lug nuts to tighten properly, then it is okay. Even though it may be safe, this issue may cause a vibration but again, the safety issue will come in if the tire does not not sit flush on the rotor or the lug nuts are not tightened properly.

The other thing you need to worry about is if the wheel is bent. I would take it to a tire shop and ask them to balance it and measure runout. This will tell you if there wheel itself is true and it is just the center hole or the wheel is no good.
