I am currently having engine problems. I took it to a dealership and there was no oil in the vehicle. I have my oil changes done at that particular dealership. They are telling me that it is normal for a car to burn a quart of oil every 1500 miles, therefore it is my fault that the engine is damaged because I am late for an oil change, is this accurate....do vehicles actually burn all that oil?

You should be hearing some type of knocking noises when the crankcase is empty of oil before the engine locked-up due to friction. Therefore the burden of proof is yours to prove.

How long could a vehicle run without oil in it? i.e. 200 miles, 2000 miles, 10000 miles before you heard a knocking noise?

I went through the same thing. I own a 2008 wrangler unlimited and have my oil changed religiously. On xmas eve I fired it up and heard the knocking sound in th engine. I shut it down and called a tow truck and had it towed to the dealership. When it arrived the service manager called me and screamed at me for not checking the oil and told me that they were going to void my warranty (only 24,000 miles on it). After producing receipts from my oil changes, they took the engine apart and called me and apologized and replaced the engine at no charge to me (under warranty). They never told me what they actually found had happened, couldnt get a straight answer from them but now have a new engine after about 5 days in the shop.

That is why I am on here. Google it. Many people with the 2008, who do check their oil, are having the same problem as you are.

I agree it is your responsibility to check the oil, but when you have the oil changed, and check it after the oil change like I did, two weeks later I could expect it to be a little low, but not have NO oil in it without having a large puddle of oil in my garage. There is defintely a problem with these Jeeps. You need to look into it more and present these facts to your dealer.
