Just pondering your situation.....See my profile....Me--CJ guy.
Looking at exploded view of hard door (Chilton '45-'87....CJs and Wrangler)....I see there is a plate (on inside) over door directly behind Outside handle--it wraps around rearward and sorta covers "latch" area too. Denying straight across access to outer handle.
Can you remove inner handle, (1)repair rod, loose or broken (2) Grab rod w/ pliers, pull it and open door?
This works sometimes to get open: IF inner handle "FEELS" like it is still connected to rod (not just handle spring tension).......You OR Pal hold inner handle open.........the other deliver a good swift kick (from inside) to REAR or door!!!
I HATE TORX Fasteners!!!--HAVE replaced most of mine w/ stainless regular hex bolts, got a trick for removal of tough Torx screws (before you break tool or muff inside of screw up)..............Last OPTION I HAVE-----Remove door hinges to door......BEST ONES are probably the foward end of your hinges (less screws---- 2 top, 2 bottom) You might also be able to "BACK-HOLD" these inside the cockpit. ( IF Latch will allow itsself to be pulled free
at rear of door)
Have some manuals w/Wrangler included, can maybe offer more help/ how not to destroy your body / paint / etc.........Let me know how you fare.
All my CJs have been soft top.....This could never happen to mine!!!
Love, Turddog
