Engine Mechanical problem

I am currently in the finishing stages of putting in a new rear main seal, which first involved having to cut off a small section of the Y pipe. My question is, will it be alright to crank it and run it long enough to check for leaks and also will it be ok to drive it to the muffler place to have the pipe welded back together? My main concern is that the place and angle that I had to cut it now puts the exhaust blowing almost directly on the oil pan. Also, will it hurt the engine to have one side connected to the exhaust and one disconntected because of the difference in back pressure? Thanks!
