I have a Dana 35 rear axle and a 30 front axle in my 01 Wrangler. The current gear ratio in 3.07 and it is an open differential. My pinion bearings and/or carrier bearings are dying and instead of just replacing them, I would like to upgrade if possible.

If I wanted to change my gear ratio from 3.07 to 3.73 would I have to change more than just the gears? I do know that the gear ratio would have to match up front and in the back. I'm also fairly certain I'd have to replace the differential case but what else would need to be retro-fitted?

Thanks for your help on this!

Upgrade to 8.8 and you will not have to worry about the gear break in the carrier and just have to replace the front carrier. Read this it might help
