2000 Jeep TJ 6 cyl Four Wheel Drive Manual 123xxx miles

to make a long storry short.... my plow hit a peice of ice and stoped short, I was wearing my seat belt and still my face hit the steering wheel. If I pull on them fast 1 out of 10 times they will lock but most of the time they just spool out. How do i test the seat belts to see if they are working.

If you hit something and the inertia lock didnt stop the shoulder belt, you should replace the assembly. There is no repairing or testing the inertia locks, if they fail you replace them

So you find out the seat belts dont work by hitting the steering wheel?

I don't like that test procedure.

I dont blame you a bit.The only thing you could possibly do is yank on it fast like a collision to see if it locks. They should be replaced anytime the vehicle is in an accident

I called the dealer and was told the test is to yank on the belt fast and if it does NOT lock up the mechanism needs to be replaced.
