2007 Other Jeep Models gear shift

I push in the brake and try to shift and it will not shift into reverse or any gear. My gear shifter is between the seats.

The shifter tend to go out alot on these type of vehicles. the lock out device is electronic. Any kind of drinks spilled near cup holder seep into that area. Have it checked by a technician to verify, but again very common problem
