I took apart tail assembly on gr. cherokee to fix issue of break lights not working when headlights are on. However, I took all the sockets with bulbs out of right and left assemblies and beleive there might be a specific order to how they are replaced and to which side they are replaced. Each socket appears to have a number 1-6 on it. Does this matter?

Left or right does not matter, but you need to plug the sockets back into the harnesses and check for power at each one to see which socket is tail ,reverse signals, etc. Then just put them back in the correct hole.
