Brakes problem
1994 Other Jeep Models 6 cyl Four Wheel Drive Automatic 190k miles
----------------------------------------------------------------
Hello there, I have been trying to get my wifes 94 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited's breaks woking again.

We had a cold snap where it went down to 7 degrees one night, and my wife's Jeep hasn't had breaks since.

As I removed the front tires, I noticed break fluid was leaking from both front calipers. So I replaced all 4 calipers, front AND rear. I then bled the system using a friends break bleeding pump, and it seemed to work well at getting all the air out.

The breaks still would not pump up. Well, they kinda do...

I found that if I repeatedly pumped the pedal they would pump up about half way, and I was able to hold the pressure by holding down the pedal once pumped up. But as soon as I let off the pedal. Upon pressing on it again, it goes straight to the floor.

I then was told to change the Master cylinder.

Prior to installing the new Master Cylinder, we bench bled it. Then after it was put on, the entire break system was bled again starting with the passenger rear/driver rear/font passenger right/front drivers left.

THE BREAKS WILL STILL NOT PUMP UP!

We then checked the entire break system and lines for leaks. None were found, and there was also no noticeable fluid loss from the reservoir. We then bled the system again.

I have replaced everything except the Power Booster and the ABS system. I was told that these were probly not the problem, but I am not so sure now.

I was also told by several mechanics that the new Master Cylinder could be faulty, and that they have experienced this in the past. However the place I ordered the master cylinder from wont take it back, so I'm out $100 bucks and it looks like I may be blowing another $100 on another master cylinder again. But I would hate to if that isn't the problem.

2 weeks, and over a dozen large bottles of break fluid later, the breaks still wont work properly.

Sorry about the long post, I just wanted to be thorough and give you as much info as possible.

Thnx in advanced,

Justin
